Today is National Piña Colada Day. Don’t ask us why, but it is, and that’s a good thing.

But before we start shaking that favorite rum-based cocktail, let’s take a moment to journey back to 1979 and remember the catchy “Escape – The Piña Colada Song” by Rupert Holmes…

“If you like piña coladas...and getting caught in the rain…”

If you listen to the lyrics, you’ll realize that the song literally details a guy’s quest for infidelity. The singer is bored with his “lady,” so he places an ad in the personals looking for a woman to get with. Guess who answers the ad? None other than his actual lady! And their relationship reignites over their shared love of piña coladas. Moral of the story: you too can bond with your significant others over piña coladas too.

Anyway, Labor 411 has the labor-friendly ingredients you’ll need to prepare this concoction. You can sip your glass of coconut cream, rum, and pineapple juice right at home on your patio or do like the song says and go find a summer downpour to get caught in.

Drink responsibly, and don’t forget to make the smart consumer choices. Here’s what you’ll need to make piña coladas, with listed ingredients produced by union companies:

Calico Jack
Captain Morgan
