MayDayMay 1 marks one of the most important days in the world of labor with International Workers’ Day. Fair labor practices are something every man and woman fights for, not just in the U.S., but around the globe. With the recent tragedy at the Bangladesh garment factory, there’s never been a better time to advocate for workers’ rights.

International Workers’ Day is an official holiday in more than 80 countries, including Bangladesh, and many more celebrate in unofficial capacities with countless traditional festivities. In the U.S., many unions and their locals celebrate the day with parades and protests, and there have even been unsuccessful attempts to move our Labor Day to the international date.

In celebration of all efforts to organize and recognition of International Workers’ Day, Labor 411 has put together a union world-cuisine guide for just a handful of the countries lifting up labor on May 1.
