Six weeks ago we launched our first ever Buy Union, Buy American Week, featuring the great work of the members of the United Steelworkers. It was a terrific success, reaching more than 300,000 people via social media. Every other week since then we have featured a new union or group of unions in an effort to build awareness for union-made, American products. Those unions include the Building Trades unions and the Teamsters. We are happy to announce that on Monday, May 20th, we are launching the Support the United Food and Commercial Workers Week.
Representing over one million union members throughout North America, the UFCW plays a vital role in the food industry. Its members produce dairy, chocolate, and cereals, to name a few. They work in the meat processing plants that supply consumers with household names such as Hillshire Farms and Butterball. And they have a strong presence in the beverage industry, producing excellent beers, liquors, and more. You’ll also find them working in your favorite neighborhood union grocery store.
Our goal throughout this campaign is to inform consumers about the products and services produced in America by union members. Only by doing so can we hope to increase demand for union-made products and, consequently, help support good middle class jobs here at home.
We are delighted at the high levels of engagement that this campaign has received so far, with thousands of fans sharing the posts via social media and helping us spread the message. This truly is a group effort requiring the participation of all of us to make it a success. And we hope you will continue to do so with the Support UFCW Week.
