Each year we hear of more and more stores that are opening on Thanksgiving Day, depriving their employees of time with their families. But what often goes unmentioned are the stores that refuse to open on that day. Instead they give their employees a day of rest and put people over profits. Below are eighteen such stores. If you know of any other stores, let us know in the comments. And if any of these eighteen stores have changed their policies and are in fact opening on Thanksgiving Day this year, please let us know and we will remove them from the list.

1. BARNES & NOBLE

2. BED, BATH & BEYOND

3. BJ'S WHOLESALE CLUB

4. COSTCO

5. CRATE & BARREL

6. DILLARDS

7. HOME DEPOT

8. HOME GOODS

9. JO-ANN FABRICS

10. LOWES

11. MARSHALLS

12. NORDSTROM

13. PC RICHARD & SON

14. PIER 1

15. PUBLIX

16. RADIO SHACK*

*Radio Shack's policy recently changed to open on Thanksgiving Day with a break between noon and 5 pm for employees to have dinner with their families.

17. SUR LA TABLE

18. TJ MAXX

I used to work for Michaels, the arts & crafts store, and we were not open on Thanksgiving -in Massachusetts; but we did have open stores in NH. I believe it depends a lot on the state laws and sometimes the city/town laws as well. It would be a better thing if all stores were closed for the holiday because of a company-wide policy!

Half of these would be better off closing on Thanksgiving because sales would be too low to justify remaining open. I don't know if I can give them any points for that.

BRAVO!!!!! Its time to make the holidays about family and basic family values and not about money and big companies bottom line.

Thank you for publishing this list. I'm sure they will have all my shopping needs. I love shopping on Black Friday. But enough is enough. If they want my business they will still have sales all day Friday and some on Saturday. If they don't care about their employees they certainly don't care about the consumers.

My husband works at a Radio Shack inside a mall, and his store, along with the rest of the mall, will be open 6 pm Thanksgiving. We're not in a position for him to turn down holiday pay but it's a disappointing trend.
