AT&T at it Again: Firing Over a Hundred More Workers Despite Huge Tax Cuts

By Sahid Fawaz

AT& has been busy letting people go. And the giant tax cuts don’t seem to be slowing it down.

Crain’s Detroit reports:

“AT&T subsidiary Michigan Bell Telephone Co. is planning to layoff 114 employees at a Detroit call center effective March 28.

The Dallas-based conglomerate intends to cut employees at its Detroit Credit & Collections Call Center at 105 E. Bethune St. in the New Center area, according to a notice filed with the state Thursday. The call center in the building will close but other operations there will continue, company spokesman Marty Richter told Crain’s via email.

Affected employees — 113 service representatives and one technical associate — are represented by the Communications Workers of America, which is negotiating bumping rights with AT&T Midwest.

Richter said the layoffs are a result of technological improvements driving higher efficiencies and decreased call volumes.”
