There are a multitude of all-American, ethically made products made in and around Los Angeles. Today, during Ethical Consumer Week 2018, we raised our glass to a favorite.
MillerCoors is the recipient of the 2018 Buy Blue Ribbon Award which is given annually to a business that demonstrates a commitment to treating its employees fairly. Good companies help create good jobs which help strengthen the middle class.
In the case of MillerCoors, those good jobs also make possible to the production of several iconic brews.
At the MillerCoors Irwindale Brewery, more than 500 employees help brew up to 6 million barrels of beer per year of Coors Light, Miller Lite, Miller High Life, Miller 64, Miller Genuine Draft, Mickey’s (Ice), Milwaukee’s Best (Ice), Hamm’s, Keystone Light, Old English (HG), Steel Reserve, Magnum, Henry’s Blue Boar and Private Reserve as well as a variety of Pabst products which are produced under contract.
Those 500 employees include workers from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2295, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 896, the United Auto Workers Local 509 and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 947.
Local 896’s Secretary-Treasurer Phil Cooper, who has worked for MillerCoors for more than 40 years, noted that “the workers here both salaried and hourly… we push this product. We make sure our friends drink it. It’s a great product.”
“Miller is my beer of choice – always will be,” Cooper continued, speaking at the Buy Blue Ribbon Award presentation earlier today. “It keeps my brothers and sisters here working. My father worked here for the company. I’ve had brothers that retired here. This job has provided for my family for years. It’s a good employer. I like the fact we’re giving this award out. It’s well deserved.”
