Union-Made, American Cars Dominate the LA Auto Show: Here Are Our Favorites

By Michael Teitelbaum and Sahid Fawaz

The first of this season’s auto shows kicked off with the Los Angeles Auto Show yesterday – and what an event it has been! It’s a car lover’s paradise to say the least, with beautiful cars from all over the world on display.

But the most impressive takeaway from the show was how much the American manufacturers dominated this year. American companies showed off cars that blew away the competition with an unbeatable combination of performance and price. And the best part is that they are all union-made!

These are some of our favorites:

Chevrolet Camaro SS

Here it is: the 2016 Motor Trend Car of the Year. It beat out some tough competition in the final rounds from brands like Honda, Porsche, and BMW. Why does the new Camaro deserve so much praise? Because it is a perfect mix of handling, power, styling, and interior comfort. We can’t think of any other car for less than $40,000 that will go zero to sixty in 4 seconds flat. You would have to spend a lot more for that kind of performance from any other brand. Add in the redone interior, improved handling, and gorgeous exterior, and you have one heck of a bargain that will bring a smile to your face every time you drive it.

Cadillac ATS-V Sedan

This is one monster of a sedan (and great looking too): 455 hp, 445 lb-ft torque, and 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. All that performance in a luxury sedan.

Ford Focus RS

This hot hatch is creating an enormous amount of buzz. As it should. You get the practicality of a five-door Focus, with crazy performance for a hatchback: 350 hp, 350 lb-ft torque, and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. The kids will no longer complain about having to take the “family car” anywhere.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

The horsepower king. This beast comes with 707 ponies under the hood. And it even has rear seats, making it a practical daily driver too!

Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

One of the best Mustangs ever made, this is one awesome car for the track and the road. Those who have driven it agree that the handling is incredible, while the engine puts out serious performance: 526 hp, 429 lb-ft of torque, and 0-60 in less than 4 seconds.

Ford GT

The new Ford GT is a gorgeous supercar that is designed to compete with the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren. The price is expected to be a mere $400,000. But on the plus side: you’ll look like a million bucks driving it!

Ford Raptor

If you like your trucks fast and powerful, the upcoming Ford Raptor should be at the top of your list. Its twin-turbocharged V-6 engine delivers 450 hp and 450 lb-ft torque in one mean looking body!

Corvette Z06

Only a handful of cars in the world can keep up with this car. Its 650 hp engine will get you from 0-60 in 3 seconds. And its handling is second to none. With the refresh, this car looks better than ever on the inside and outside.

The best of the rest:

Buick Lacrosse

Ford Explorer

Ford Escape

Ford Edge

Chevrolet Suburban

Chevrolet Volt

Ford Fusion

Chevrolet Sonic
