Looking for something to do this 4th of July weekend in our nation’s birthplace? Labor 411 has put together a list of the must see 4th of July experiences in Philadelphia, and they are all union! Attend one of the following events and ring in Independence Day in the best way possible, by supporting good jobs that pay workers fairly and promote a stronger American middle class!
1. Celebration of Freedom Ceremony
Start your day off right by visiting this 10 a.m. ceremony at Independence Hall where you will enjoy live music from the Philly POPS and listen to a reading of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence.
No 4th of July would be complete without fireworks! Stop by the Philadelphia Museum of Art at dusk for a firework show that will blow your mind.
3. The 1776 Experience
Take a step back in time as you visit a recreated American Revolutionary war military encampment on the lawn of the National Constitution Center. Experience the colonial life of a soldier fighting for independence as you practice with the troops, hone your blacksmithing skills and visit the wounded in the medical tent at this all day event.
4. Neighborhood Concert
For a one of a kind experience head over to the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing and grab a seat along the river where the Philadelphia Orchestra will be dishing out dazzling patriotic melodies starting at 8 p.m.
5. Independence Day Parade
Starting at Independence Hall, this 1.2 mile march through historic Philadelphia highlights patriotic marching bands, colorful floats, and military and cultural groups.
