Basic Survival Tips

Survival in nature means the proper use of natural resources (water, flora and fauna) in order to maintain health, to satisfy basic needs (sleep, food, water …) and personal safety in extreme situations in nature caused by various natural, social or any other factors.

TYPICAL BEGINNERS’S MISTAKES

1. Do not attempt to break through the storm. Concentrate on finding a safe place and shelter from the wind.

2. The worst mistakes can be caused by one’s impatience. The best example is climbing to the top of a mountain. Climbers who think that reaching the top of the mountain is not particularly challenging, move fast and energetically, not realizing that soon they will run out of strength. In doing so, they remain stuck in the mountain because they become too tired. Many of them unfortunately die.

3. People often go for a hiking, not prior informing someone about that. Even a small, easy walk through the mountain can end up with broken leg or, you can get lost. So, as much as you think that the walk you are taking through the mountain is safe, always inform someone where you are going and when you will come back.

4. Another beginner’s mistake is to underestimate the sickness you may suffer while in mountains and its consequences. Everything is much worse when you are high in mountains. It's even worse when you're high in the mountains – you have to fight dehydration, cold, wind…Survival is much more difficult at high altitudes.

SURVIVAL SKILLS

Survival skills are skills vital for coping with life-threatening situations when facing limited time needed to be rescued. These skills should be mastered by those who use nature as a form of entertainment or professional activity.

For survival people should primarily have good concentration. Also, they have to be strong enough to endure the loneliness in case they happen to be alone, and off course, to remain calm and confident.

People should always remain optimistic no matter how difficult the situation is, and they should prepare for the worst.People should understand and try to handle their fear in life-threatening situations.

In life-threatening situations, people should really give themselves time to make decisions, because consequences of bad decisions can cost them life. If the person “surrenders” when facing danger, that means certain death. Therefore, people should gather courage and take destiny in their own hands.
