Not a Peep: Marshmallow Strike in PA

By Michael Messina

The candy company Just Born makes a lot of familiar and nostalgic American sweets: Marshmallow Peeps, Mike and Ike, Hot Tamales. But Wednesday, about 200 union workers walked off the job in Pennsylvania after contract negotiations failed with their employer.

Labor 411 proudly listed these great products in our directory of union-made goods. Those Peeps are classic spongy fun! From the original yellow Easter varieties to the neon green trees and accompanying snowmen during the winter holidays, we love ‘em. But with Halloween coming up, we’ll be thinking twice about grabbing the bright orange marshmallow jack-o-lanterns off the shelves. With scabs on the job at the Just Born factory in Bethlehem, PA, we won’t be purchasing Peeps or any of the Just Born products until the company does the right thing and hammers out a contract with its workers.

Take a stand and direct your consumer dollars elsewhere until union workers are back on the job!
