Mayflower Medicinals Sets Sail on Union Voyage

Workers at the Mayflower Medicinals cannabis production facility in Holliston have voted to join Massachusetts’s Cannabis Union, UFCW Local 1445, the union announced Wednesday. The company, owned by iAnthis, has 40 employees and services dispensaries in the greater Boston area.

The Mayflower employees are among the first cannabis workers to unionize in the state, according to an article in the “Worcester Business Journal.”

“The entire process has tested everyone’s resolve, but we came through in the end and are ecstatic with the result,” said Mayflower employee Dave Schermerhorn.

According to the union, employees had been pushing to unionize before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the economy. Even during the pandemic, employees continued their drive for a contract.

“The workers at Mayflower are a great example of what happens when workers stand together and fight for what they want,” said Local 1445 Secretary Treasurer and Organizing Director Fabricio DaSilva.
