New York Governor Moves To Make New York’s ‘Buy American’ Act Permanent

Andrew Cuomo wants New York to effectively be the ‘Buy American’ state.

CBS affiliate, WBNG, reports:

“New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced legislation Saturday that makes the “New York Buy American” act permanent.

The “Buy American” law requires all structural steel and iron used in state road and bridge construction projects worth more than $1 million to be made in the United States.

The law was originally set to expire in April 2020.

The governor’s office says the Department of Transportation, Thruway Authority, Bridge Authority, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Office of General Service, SUNY Construction Fund and Dormitory Authority of the State of New York are required to include a contract provision requiring the iron and steel for all surface roads and bridge projects to be made in the United States under the law.”
