Leap Day only comes around once every four years, so why not guarantee it’s memorable? This year, break out the big bucks and shell out for that splurge you’ve been longing to make for years. Be sure that what you buy is manufactured by companies that treat their workers fairly and give them a voice on the job. So, go big, and #TakeTheLeap this Feb. 29.
Automobiles
Some of the best vehicles out there are American – and union – made. We’re talking anything from Cadillacs and Lincolns to Dodge Rams and Ford Mustangs have United Auto Workers (UAW) hands on them. So, if you’re in the market for a new car, truck or SUV, make sure it’s union-made and take some pride in the builder of your new chariot.
Watches
Everyone knows they take a licking and keep on ticking, but Timex Watches are also union-made, manufactured by the Machinists (IAMAW). Timex watches are stylish, reliable and made under contracts that ensure good pay and working conditions.
Pianos
A new piano is something you can keep in the family for generations. And, yep, some are union-made. The world class Steinway & Sons are meticulously crafted by members of GMP and UAW. You can strike the right chord by buying union, which is music to everybody’s ears.
Mattresses
You’re supposed to buy a new mattress once every seven to 10 years. If you purchase a Sealy or Serta, you can rest easy knowing that your hard-earned dollars went to a product created by CWA and the Teamsters.
Appliances
Your refrigerator and washer and dryer are household mainstays. Isn’t time to upgrade? With products made by Whirlpool (UAW) and General Electric (IUE-CWA) being union-made, not only will your home have high-quality appliances, you’ll be reminded every day that your purchase made a difference in someone’s life.
