We are witnessing one of the most anti-worker, anti-union presidential administrations in the history of our country. From ending collective bargaining for hundreds of thousands of federal workers to unprecedented attacks on the NLRB to inhumane policies against migrant workers and their families, President Donald Trump has made it clear that he is no friend of the working class or unions.

And here comes Labor Day, which is a celebration of the countless workers and union activists who risked their lives to transform our country from reckless and obscene exploitation of humans to a nation of labor laws and regulations. Workers today enjoy protections such as the 40-hour workweek, safety regulations, and overtime pay because of the dedication of the labor movement for over 150 years. Without unions, the bosses might still have us all working 14 hour days, six days a week while children are sent to factories instead of schools.

Americans are making it clear this Labor Day that they sit back silently as the current administration tries workers of their hard-earned rights. Over 900 protests are planned in all 50 states this Labor Day. It is our opportunity to stand taller and much louder in the face of oppression. The history of labor movement has taught us that we win when we fight back in solidarity.
