Union Chef: Rummy Worms

By Shelly Lurie

We all know that Halloween isn’t just for kids. This recipe is for the 21-and-over crowd celebrating All Hallows’ Eve.

Making rummy worms is easy, with only two ingredients, and is great to bring to a party for those of legal drinking age. It only requires a little thinking ahead since it takes about 5 hours for the finished product. Picture your friends and family dressed up in costume slurping up slimy worms – it’s definitely in the spirit of Halloween.

As always, our recipes are designed to use union-made ingredients – so you’re not only satisfying your taste buds, but also supporting good jobs here in the U.S.!

Rummy Worms

Ingredients (purchase from your local unionized grocery store):

1 bottle of Bacardi Superior rum (or your favorite flavored Bacardi rum)
2 bags of Trolli Squiggles (worms)

1. Empty both bags of worms into a large bowl
2. Pour enough rum over the gummy worms to completely cover them, with a little rum peeking out on top
3. Let them sit for at least 4-5 hours and check to make sure the worms are swelling up with liquid. You want the worms to be less firm than they usually would be – a little squishy – but not too squishy to the point that they liquefy. Over-soaking the worms will turn them into a messy gelatin soup.
4. Once desired texture is reached, pour out the remaining liquid and serve.

Labor 411 endorses moderate and responsible drinking.
