Anchor Brewery, an iconic union beer brand in San Francisco that closed its doors recently, has been bought by Chobani yogurt founder Hamdi Ulukaya who is looking to restart the beermaker.

And the former workers are welcoming the decision.

“Speaking on social media, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, which represents workers from across Anchor’s San Francisco-based brewery and taproom, revealed that 77% of the workers were committed to reviving the iconic Anchor Steam beer brand,” the website, The Drinks Business, reported.

Former Anchor employee Denny Miller said, “When I heard Hamdi Ulukaya had bought Anchor and was going to resurrect the brand, it was a dream come true. It was a real loss for San Francisco when Anchor went away.”

Anchor workers tried desperately last year to buy the brewery but ultimately failed. The new sale gives hope to workers and the city that the brewery will once again have a bright future.
